UTAH STATE COURT APPROVED INTERPRETERS

As of January 1, 2011 there are new requirements for ASL interpreters who work in the courts. The Utah State Courts and the Utah Interpreter Program established requirements so that ASL interpreters working in the courts will have the same basic training and standards in legal interpreting.

"Mock" Test now available for the
NOVICE LEVEL PERFORMANCE TEST
Are you ready to take the Novice Level test? Do you feel unsure or nervous about the testing process?

UIP now offers a “mock” test for the Novice Level. Those interested in this opportunity may make an appointment and take the mock test. This will give you the experience of taking the Novice Level test without actually testing. All the steps of the testing process will be explained, and any question answered. You will use the lab, the testing room, and be given stimulus material for Spoken English-Sign, Sign-Spoken English, and Role Play. You will receive a video copy of your work to take with you.

“I feel like this will not be as difficult or scary as I thought it would be.”

“I never realized how many options I have in testing, and I really feel ready to test after doing this.”

“I wish everyone would do this. I think it would help them with the test.”

There is no charge for the mock test. If you are interested in making an appointment for this pre-testing practice, please send an e-mail to:

Be sure to put “Mock Test” in the subject line. The "mock" test is offered every Wednesday and Friday except on testing week .

PLEASE NOTE: You must pass the Written Exam before taking the Mock Test. The mock test is not a skills assessment, but is intended to help familiarize you with the testing procedure. No feedback is given.

JANUARY 2012 TESTING
January 19-20-21, 2012
Application and payment are due
December 30, 2011

In an effort to accommodate the large number of testing candidates, UIP offers three (3) days (Thursday-Friday-Saturday) of testing each month, with Thursday being filled last. The Written Exam is now offered all three days as well.

Receipt of the application and payment by the due date does not guarantee placement on the schedule. Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. If registration exceeds the number of available testing appointments, candidates will be moved to the following month.

Special Testing Accommodations

If you have a disability or need that requires special accommodation, official verification and documentation of the need for accommodation MUST ACCOMPANY YOUR APPLICATION. Please submit the following: 1) Your written request stating the disability or impairment, its potential impact on testing performance, and the requested accommodation(s). 2) Documentation of a formally diagnosed and qualified disability by a qualified professional who has provided evaluation or treatment for you. The professional must be a licensed healthcare provider who has been personally involved in the diagnosis or treatment of the disability for which you are requesting accommodation, or an educational or testing professional who has previously provided you with testing accommodations similar to those requested. The documentation letter you obtain from that professional must be on official stationery and include the following: a) identification of the specific disability/diagnosis; b) a brief description of the disability.

All information that is provided will be kept strictly confidential and will be used only for testing accommodations.
