Information on EIPA testing can be obtained by contacting Christine Timothy at Utah State Office of Education (801.538.7576 or christine.timothy@schools.utah.gov ).

Utah recognizes the EIPA test with a score of 4.0* or above. Yearly recognition requires completion of the recognition form, fee, and 20 hours of workshops.

The EIPA is limited to interpreting in K-12 classroom settings only. If you intend to do freelance or college interpreting, the Utah Professional Level or RID certification is required. The EIPA Diagnostic Center clarifies this: "The EIPA test results are specific for the level that was evaluated. In other words, if an individual takes the elementary level test, their results reflect their skills and abilities to interpret elementary-level content, and vice-versa."

Utah supports and enforces the criteria established by the EIPA that EIPA interpreters may only interpret in the specific setting for which they are certified.

*An initial score of 3.5 is recognized in Utah, with the stipulation that interpreters must advance to a 4.0 level within four (4) years from the date of original certification.
