· Individuals holding the EIPA at 3.5 are limited to K-12 classroom settings only. They are not permitted to in other assignments, i.e. VRS, freelance, post-secondary.
· Individuals holding the EIPA at 3.5 have four (4) years from date of certification to advance to 4.0, beginning January 2013.
· Beginning Fall 2010, individuals who hold only elementary or secondary certification will be limited to the area in which they are certified, i.e. those holding EIPA secondary will not be permitted to work in elementary settings, and vice-versa.

Please note: The Certification Advisory Board has recommended the following changes in policy to the Division of Services to the Deaf & Hard of Hearing. DSDHH is now reviewing these recommendations and will present them to the Board of Education for approval.
· The Master Level testing will be eliminated.
· "Intermediate Level" certification name will be changed.
· Certified Novice Level interpreters with lapsed or expired certification will not be permitted to apply for the Temporary Permit.
· Utah will now recognize the following national certification tests: NIC, CI/CT, NAD Level 4 or above.
· Utah will adopt the RID Code of Professional Conduct.
· EIPA certificate holders with a 3.5 to 3.9 score will be required to advance this score to a 4.0 within four (4) years.
· The cycle length of Novice Level certification will be extended to four (4) years before being required to move to Professional Level.
· Candidates who pass a component of the Professional Level test will have 18 months to pass all areas.
· The Written Exam will be valid for a period of five (5) years.
·EIPA guidelines will be enforced (i.e., interpreting restricted to certification area only)
·Those who are providing paid interpreting services and are involved in an internship or practicum will be required to obtain a Student Permit.
